Five Things for the Week of January 27, 2025
One: Theme Park Safety Failures, by Jeffrey P. Stoneking
This week I’m sharing five of the more unusual books I have in my collection. First up: a book whose title fairly accurately describes its content.

Graphic Design Is My Passion
Two: Halloween and Satanism, by Phil Phillips and Joan Hake Robie
A banger from 1987, at the height of the Satanic Panic Era. “To schedule author appearances, write: Author Appearances, Starburst Productions, P.O. Box 4123, Lancaster, PA, 17604.”

Choose Your Fighter
Three: Paranormal Pooch, by Olga Horvat
From the back cover: “Paranormal Pooch is an eye-opening story about one family’s four-month sojourn into the dark and unknown side of the canine world. The kind of experiences they went through have never been fully documented in nonfiction.”
It’s about a pure-bred toy poodle named Princess.

“Olga Horvat, M.A., is a founder of Royal Dogs Gallery, a company that provides spiritual/holistic products and services specially designed for dogs and their owners. An award-winning artist and certified color therapist, Horvat uses the spectrum of colored light to balance energy in the concerned areas of the body.”
I also want to add that all the chapter headings look like this:

Ominous Signs!
Four: Cats I’ve Known, by Barbara Bowers
I think I paid a dollar for this at Binnacle Books in Beacon, New York, which was both absurdly way too much and yet somehow also a mere fraction of its true value.

Genuinely surprised this one had an ISBN number
Five: Enjoy Your Own Funeral, by George W. Meek
This one is about life after death, but its title is the kind of thing an 80s action movie hero would say as he was about to ice some dude.

Enjoy your own funeral, pal!
